According to a story cited in the Barrow County News by Dr. Pamela Settle Miles, "The holiday was conceived by Eudora Brown Almond, a physician's wife ... the date of March 30th was chosen ... because it was the anniversary of the day that anesthesia was first administered to a patient...."
